In-Person Training
The Body Isn't Designed to be Understood. It's Designed to be Experienced.
DETOUR METHOD IMMERSION TRAINING

When Yoga Detour began, we were in the 200HR teacher training business.

We designed an incomparable curriculum, executed by world-class faculty, and showed the yoga world how to leverage the power of collaboration, integration and multi-disciplinary learning.

This is what it looked like…..

But over the course of four successful 200HR training programs, we realized that this isn’t the best we can do. In fact, it’s not even close. Because now we’re not just in the teacher training business. We’re in the business of education.

It’s time to stop pretending that 200 hours is enough.

It’s time to stop ignoring the gaps left behind by trainings that focus solely on yoga poses.

It’s time to stop believing there’s nothing left to learn.

It’s time for a program that will bridge the gap between everything you’ve already been taught and all the things you now wish you knew more about.

Immerse Yourself in the Detour Method

You want to know how to merge mobility, FRC, strength training and the other stuff you’ve seen from us online with the yoga practice.

The possibility of integrating the unfamiliar and yet necessary components of movement education with asana doesn’t just inspire you – it makes you want to squat, crawl, leap, twist, bend and explore your way into a room with other experienced teachers who are ready for what you’re looking for – refreshing information that is going to make your teaching undeniably magnetic.

In the Detour Immersion program, you can close the gap between where you are and where you want to be.

Here’s what you’ll learn:

    • Endless movement options that will take your teaching repertoire from boring to brilliant
    • How to give people the tools to move well in life, not just on a yoga mat
    • How to teach in a way that saves your students from the common pitfalls of misguided practice – we’re talking painfree backbends, handstands that don’t look like bananas, wrists that are strong rather than sore, and hamstrings that won’t tear under the weight of a forward bend
  • An approach to anatomy that ties together all the loose ends of previous trainings to leave you with a newfound sense of clarity
  • How to use movement as a gateway to mitigating injury
  • How to take this foundation and build a business that leaves you gratified, confident and moving in the direction of your wildest dreams

NEXT SESSION OF YOGA DETOUR IMMERSION TRAINING

BEGINS JANUARY 2019

Still on the fence? Here’s what a student said about our last training….

“Since the beginning of the training, I have felt like a brand new teacher again, finding my words and learning to cue with more purpose. I’ve also had the worry that if I change how I’m teaching, students that practice with me won’t like the changes and stop coming to class.

However, last night I taught a Yoga Detour inspired sequence (one that I have been working on for awhile, cueing out loud to make it smooth and more natural etc) and I’ve never received so much positive feedback after a class.

Students were coming up to me saying how great they had felt after the class and how even the cues I was using had made things “click” for them in their bodies.

I even had a chat with a student about foot care for about 20mins after class!

I haven’t felt this excited to teach in a really long time. I have been really feeling the need to not only move people in a yoga class but to actually prompt change and healing as well.

I feel like everything I’m learning in Yoga Detour is putting me on the path to truly helping people feel better.”

THE YOGA DETOUR METHOD: MERGING YOGA & FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT

QUEEN STREET YOGA, KITCHENER ON
– JAN 12-13, 2019

Functional movement workshop

Yoga Detour is known for seamlessly bridging the gap between alternative movement modalities and traditional postures. As the creator of this Teacher Training method, Cecily specializes in an integrative approach to yoga asana that blends science with intuition, and structure with creativity. During this deep dive into the Detour method, she will explore the four main pillars of this approach:

  • Working from the Centre – spinal mechanics, centration and core stability
  • Integrating lower body strength and mobility into standing postures
  • Integrating upper body strength and mobility into backbends and arm balances
  • Floor Play – finding mobility from the group up

Cecily will demonstrate how to layer these foundational elements of a Detour-style practice to create an approach to movement and teaching that honours the needs of each student while creating a balanced and informed full-body experience.

MTS x YD: A Weekend Immersion with Cecily Milne and Ian Markow

BRANKSOME HALL, TORONTO ON
– MARCH 2-3, 2019

Yoga Detour proudly welcomes Markow Training Systems for a first-time collaboration between Cecily Milne and Ian Markow.

Cecily and Ian will merge their respective expertise in movement, mobility, yoga, strength work and functional training to create an experience unlike anything else you’ve ever seen or attended.

Day One will focus on the lower body, zeroing in on the hips, knees and ankles to transform the global movement of all global movements: the squat.

Day Two will focus on the upper body, looking at the spine, shoulders and wrists through a lens that will demystify the movement prerequisites of complex overhead positions like backbends and handstand. Both days will include a Kinstretch class targeted at bringing awareness and activation to specific parts the body, as well as time dedicated to assessment and movement exploration.

This workshop is open to all – any level of practitioner from all movement disciplines. Space will be limited to 35 participants with registration opening December 15.

Retreats

FOLLOW THE DETOUR TO NOSARA, COSTA RICA

– FEBRUARY 16 – 23, 2019

I said I’d never do this again…

But when I found out about Rayos del Sol I knew it was the only place that could bring me out of “retreat retirement”.

Having led three previous retreats in the same region of Costa Rica, I know first-hand the magic this place has to offer. But rather than lead a generic retreat vacation, we’re instead creating something that is much more – a true journey – by reconnecting to nature and infusing movement practices with the energy that only this part of the world can provide.

We’ve partnered with TribeWire to co-create this journey. With their vast network and knowledge of the land, they are providing unparalleled support, setting the stage for our transformative adventure in nature. Without a doubt, this experience will surpass even my own expectations and prove to be the experience of a lifetime.

I hope you’ll join us on this journey,

– Cecily
