Movement for Trauma

  • Mindful Movement Centre 68 Scollard Street Toronto, ON, M5R 1G2 Canada (map)

Detour's Movement for Trauma Continuing Education Module will build a foundational understanding of how traumatic stress impacts the autonomic nervous system, fascia and brain. Taught by Jane Clapp, creator of the Movement for Trauma program, this course is designed for movement professionals who wish to begin weaving trauma intelligence into their practice. Participants will build a toolkit of techniques that promote nervous system regulation (from both the client and instructor perspectives), examine sitting vs. moving in mindful practices to regulate the ANS and use the intelligence of our own bodies to read and listen to clients, thereby fostering healthy emotional and energetic boundaries.

Students should have a basic understanding of their own responses to stress and trauma, perhaps have engaged in their own psychotherapy, and be willing to go to greater emotional and spiritual depths within themselves and with their clients.

Suggested pre-course reading: The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel Van Der Kolk.

Saturday, April 1 1-7pm & Sunday, April 2 10-4:30pm (30 min lunch break)

In order to receive your Movement for Trauma Level 1 certification, you will need to complete assigned readings on the topic of pelvic health and pass a test to demonstrate your knowledge of the material. The test will be administered online at the conclusion of the training.

About Jane

We are all healing from some past hurt or loss, but it doesn’t mean we are broken. Our past struggles, traumas or health issues don’t have to be a life sentence. I believe we have the power to free ourselves from the shackles that limit our joy and fulfillment. While it is widely accepted that mindfulness is necessary to shape the body, I assert that the body is one of the most powerful alchemic tools for shaping the mind.

As a practitioner in the health industry for two decades, my approach is to combine holistic personal training with tension and trauma healing to help my clients gain strength, mobility and energy. Through personal and professional exploration, I know that you can cultivate a deeply felt sense of resilience and agency to realize freedom in your life.

As the founder of Urbanfitt, I have helped more than 1000 clients improve emotional and nervous system regulation, positively shift neuroplasticity and release somatized stress and trauma. Through my revolutionary coaching sessions and workshops, I will ensure that you not only feel better, but truly realize your full potential for contentment and happiness. I am an experienced and illuminating speaker, widely consulted media expert and internationally recognized author. I am available for personal, group and corporate training as well as speaking engagements worldwide.
