An Embodied Experience

Learn from a faculty led by Yoga Teacher and Doula Nicky Poole. She will be joined by Doula Educator, Stefanie Antunes, Pelvic Health Physiotherapist, Michelle Fraser, Pilates Instructor and Doula, Ruth Ruttan and Holistic Nutritionist Jennifer Helland who will guide our students in all things related to the realities of birth.

Training Options

A: The Whole Kit and Caboodle

Want to commit to the whole program? GREAT! This Training will entail 66 in-class hours along with time dedicated to readings, assignments and a final practicum. Once all requirements are met, you will receive a Pre/postnatal detour training certificate to teach.

Much of the emphasis around training movement during and after pregnancy focuses on just that - the "before" and "after" of the big event - BIRTH! We've chosen to include Doula training as the first step in Pre/Postnatal Detour training because of how it sets the tone for everything that will follow it in this program. When we understand what birth really, truly entails, we are that much better at supporting those who are preparing for it, or recovering after. Module 2: Pilates Principles for Pregnancy

Module 3: The Female Pelvis

Establish a deeper understanding of female pelvic floor anatomy, learning how it is affected by pregnancy, both structurally and functionally. Engage with theory and movement while exploring pelvic floor imbalance and it’s consequences, along with pelvic pain and the connection between the pelvic floor and nervous system.

Through a trauma and cultural lens, develop solutions to the challenges faced by movement practitioners through the peripartum period. Opportunities to put this information into the language of a movement teacher will be provided, with time spent on various means of communication and integration.

Module 4: Prenatal Yoga Detour Training*

How is birth understood through various cultural lenses?  How can the yoga practice and other movement modalities be used to support the birth process? 

Using the previous modules of PPDT as our foundation (Doula School, The Female Pelvis, Pilates Principles for Pregnancy), we will delve into an integrated, experiential approach toward prenatal yoga and movement. Learn prenatal salutations, explore upper and lower body movement with emphasis on posture, sound biomechanics, strength, and rhythm. 

Participants in this weekend will walk away with a clear understanding how prenatal approaches to yoga differ from typical classes, and will gain the confidence to apply this understanding to their teaching. 

This module is designed for those who already hold a 200HR YTT certificate.

Module 5: Pre/Postnatal Detour Training*

Building on what was introduced in Prenatal Detour Training, students will now learn to integrate Relaxation, Rhythm and Ritual into the movement practice, emphasizing breath work and visualizations to create a safe space for effective private and group prenatal classes. 

There will be a greater focus here on postnatal movement, along with time dedicated to nutritional support for women during and after pregnancy. 

Everyone will be given an opportunity to demonstrate their ability to infuse the information from this program into their professional practice as either teachers/coaches, movement therapists or bodyworkers.
